Stay With Me-Book Review

I have not written on this page for so long. Every so often I come back to see what posts are being read most. Surprisingly the book reviews and natural hair stuff are what is being read mostly.

I belong to a book club!!! This has been a thing I wanted for so long.A positive that came from COVID is we learnt we can do so much without meeting physically.Hence the start of online book clubs with people you have never met. I am in  Sharon`s and Patricia`s book club. Its known as Chasing Paper Books. The girls choose a book each month and host a live on their page every last Saturday of the month to discuss the book. Its a nice book club.A lot of the books are really good and the pressure to  finish books before the live is not bad.It makes me read more 😊😊.

Stay with me is the February book for Chasing Paper Books. I enjoyed this book. Its so very interesting and sometimes I was up late reading it. Wanting to know what happens next. Hoping for the best for Yejide.

This book tells the story of a couple Yejide and Akin. Who have such a romantic story about how they met and got married. In alternate chapters they each tell their story. Same story from different people who society tells us should have the same story as they are married. I found it sad and unexpected. Good thing it has a happy ending. It has major plot twists. This books also covers Nigeria` political history.

Reading it at one point I thought the author could make it slightly happier. All through it I was rooting for Yejide to get her happy ending. I loved how Yejide told Olamide her first daughter stories, how she was such a present mum in Sesan`s life, that she had a successful business and that Akin supported her business. I loved how Iya Bolu wanted her daughters to study and become doctors.

It`s definetly a page turner but its not a book you read when you want to feel light or hopeful.

What books are you loving? last year I loved Elif Shafak`s-Ten minutes and 38 seconds in this strange world the most.

Mummy Brain

I have two little boys who just turned one. Before them I had a really strong memory.I would remember the small details.Pregnancy brain did not affect me.I remembered everything.I thought I am superwoman I am leaving this unscathed.Little did I know that I will pay for this once the boys were here.

These days I am that old woman.I will pick my phone to call someone and would not remember who it was.I will take the remote to watch something and would not remember the station I wanted to tune to.

More and more I realize mummy brain is a gift.Babies can test you.Like Bashir who the other day waited to have his diaper removed before he pooped on the carpet or Fahmi who throws everything on the floor.

My little ones are mischief kings but this does not make me love them less or see them negatively.Everything is quickly forgotten. Also mums are time savers and efficient. These days I am the one who submits everything before deadline.Sometimes I forget I did but I have never missed a deadline in the past year :-) :-). Allah`s infinite wisdom

Mommies out there how did you beat this forgetfulness??

Female Owned Small Business You Should Support

I am a supporter of females.I want women to succeed.Increasingly a lot of the businesses I buy items from are women owned and if they are muslim  and/or mothers it makes me very happy.

Many people are starting small businesses especially young ladies. It seems everyone has a small business or is thinking of starting one. Most of these businesses challenge me because they are owned by people in their early twenties.Young people with big dreams doing big things. Some have even left full time employment to focus on their businesses!
I buy from small businesses as much as I can and these five are ones that I love and would recommend any day.

Moderne
Moderne is a tailoring business that is co-owned by two sisters. They make beautiful custom dresses, skirts, kimonos and palazzo pants.Basically modest clothing targeting the muslimahs.Their dresses are very beautiful and sell out pretty first.I am a huge fan and a lot of my dresses are from them.

Buy from them because their dresses are custom and for each material and design only few dresses are made. Its highly unlikely that you will get something from them and you find out everyone else has it.

Only thing is be sure to know your measurements when getting a dress from them because they will not take responsibility if sent measurements are too small and the dress cannot fit

Tajified

Ibtisam is the official girl boss she has big marketing job and makes really good bags.I have gotten so many compliments since I got her tote bag.The bag is quite functional and so very pretty. She makes a wide range of bags.Check her page out you are sure to get something to suit what you are looking for.

Elimu Box
Are you interested in getting books and crafts materials? Elimu box is the place to do this. The lady that runs it is so friendly and so efficient, she does same day deliveries. From them I have bought books, pom poms and googly eyes.Neema is so friendly that she even gives you ideas on how to use the craft materials based on the age of your child.

Lactacare
Lactacare is a business that is so close to my heart.Their lactation tea and cookies worked so well for me.The first time I used them I woke up having leaked milk mpaka the bed was proper wet.Their cookies are so delicious sometimes I miss them.If you are breastfeeding and struggling with supply try them. You will not regret.

Little Muslims Bookshelf
This business has so many muslim books for children. If you are a mum and want to read Islam story books and introduce duas to your little ones this page has it all.I buy stories from the Quran from them.My intention is to have all of the books in this series in due time. The lady that runs gives good advice on what books to get first based on what you want to achieve from the books. They do same day deliveries within Nairobi.

What small businesses do you recommend and why?
